Once again, Gentec is joining forces with experts at the Lacombe Research Centre to host a field day for producers. This year, the focus is on the interaction between cow, forage and genomics. Staff from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Alberta Beef Producers and Livestock Gentec will highlight innovations relating to optimizing cow / forage production. On-pasture presentations include:

  • A showcase featuring groups of high- and low-vigour cows and heifers
  • Innovations and advances in cow over-wintering
  • Carbon sequestration
  • Methane measurement in livestock production

Over lunch, Dr. Charlie Brummer of University of California, Davis will discuss how DNA technology is being used to develop forages that can better deliver late-season growth and or regrowth through reduced dormancy in northern climates, followed by a short Q&A session with members of AAF, AAFC and ABP as to potential implications for Alberta producers.
